Hi! I’m Trevor Merrison – founder and strategist at FreelancePro.io.
I’ve spent the last 20 years working in marketing consulting, strategy and agency fulfillment. I know this industry from the inside – the opportunities, the challenges and the very real frustration of trying to scale a service business without the right tools or team behind you.
As well as working with numerous SMEs during over 14 years of business consulting, I directly supported more than 200 people through the process of starting and growing their own businesses – so I got to understand the doubts, the questions and the pivotal moments that come with making that leap.
My Journey
My journey to FreelancePro.io wasn’t a straight line. For years I had been planning on building a Done-For-You marketing agency – it was during that research that I first discovered Umbrella and the power of white-label fulfillment. But in April 2023, a serious health setback forced me to stop everything abruptly!
Three years later, I was ready to relaunch – but I knew I couldn’t go back to the traditional, burnout-heavy model. I needed a smarter way to work and AI provided the breakthrough I needed.
Keeping up with emerging technology has always been part of how I work. I completed a Diploma in Internet Marketing back in 2017 when the digital landscape was reshaping how businesses reach their customers – and when my health forced me to step back from active work in 2023, I used that time to follow the rise of AI closely: tracking developments on social media, testing new tools and building a clear picture of where it was all heading. By the time I was ready to relaunch, I wasn’t catching up with AI – I was already ahead of it!
Why I Built FreelancePro.io
I built FreelancePro.io on a simple but powerful principle: a single person, armed with the right tools, can run a sophisticated, high-revenue business without the traditional overheads. Artificial Intelligence is ushering in the golden age of the solopreneur – and I wanted to build a resource that helps ambitious online earners take full advantage of this shift.
This site is my living proof of concept. I run FreelancePro.io with the help of Lisa Forth, my AI Co-Worker, who handles content creation, course hosting and social media. That frees me to do what I do best: evaluate the tools and strategies we recommend and have real, direct conversations with the solopreneurs, freelancers, side hustlers and aspiring agency owners in our community.
What I Focus On
My content and strategy work at FreelancePro.io centres on the bigger picture questions that ambitious online earners face:

I cut my sales teeth many years ago working as a Sales Manager for a leading international serviced office provider, building brand awareness and client relationships from scratch in a very competitive market – so I understand what it takes to sell something new to a sceptical audience.
That experience, combined with two decades of marketing consulting, means the strategies I recommend here are grounded in real commercial reality, not theory.
